Drama for Recovery
"Each person must accept the cards life deals him
or her: but once they are in hand, he or she alone must
decide how to play the cards in order to win the game."
- Voltaire
Drama can be a powerful tool
in assisting someone’s
recovery from drug and alcohol
addictions and eating
disorders. Drama therapy is now
widely used to treat many
emotional, mental, physical and
psychological issues. It is a
means of discovery, a journey
within to explore different
aspects of the self in a
creative and imaginative way.
It focuses on movement,
communication, voice, self
exploration and expression.
These benefits can also be
achieved through the medium of
drama itself and all our
courses and workshops are
tailored to the needs of the
group or individual.
Recovery from Addictions
We offer courses for those recovering from an addiction where
we focus mainly on the building up of self esteem, building
trusting relationships, improved communication and self expression.
They can also benefit the participant in releasing tension,
and simply having fun. They can be modified to keep the focus
on creativity and not on performance or can be tailored to a more
performance based workshop where the participants would present or
perform something at the end of the course.
Recovery from Eating Disorders
In workshops, for those recovering from an Eating Disorder or one on one
sessions, if preferred, we focus on improving physical and emotional awareness.
Through imaginative exercises and creative play our aim is to increase the
participants self esteem, self knowledge and self awareness, therefore building
a strong a sense of identity. The exercises are also tailored to help the
sufferer explore the issues of control and trust. Through the exercises
included in each session or workshop we aim to help them re connect the
mind and the body and gain a positive self image.
